The Group Pool-Cabin Checklist
Reunions, birthdays and multi-family weekends run smoother when a few practical questions are answered before anyone books.
Large cabins with private pools are some of the most sought-after rentals for group trips. They also have the most details to get right. This checklist is the one we would use ourselves.
Before you book
- Count beds, not just guests. “Sleeps 14” can include sofa beds, bunks and air mattresses. Ask for the bed list by room.
- Confirm the pool is private, and whether it is heated for your dates. Our guide to checking that a pool is really private has the questions to ask.
- Check the house rules on occupancy limits, events, quiet hours, parking and pets. Many listings set a maximum number of people on the property, including day visitors.
- Ask about access. Steep driveways, gravel roads and limited parking are common at mountain properties.
- Read the cancellation policy and decide who is paying the deposit.
Pool safety for groups
- Ask whether the pool has a fence, gate or alarm.
- Agree on adult supervision when children are swimming, and keep it simple: one named adult at a time.
- Find out where the pool’s depth changes, and whether diving is allowed (usually it is not).
- Keep glass away from the pool deck.
Splitting the cost
Settle on how costs are shared before you book: lodging, cleaning and service fees, any pool-heating fee, groceries and activities. A shared spreadsheet or payment app avoids awkward conversations later.
Find a cabin that fits
Start with the destination. In the Smoky Mountains, for example, Sevierville is home to many of the larger group cabins. Before you book, confirm the pool is private to your group and open on your dates. Every cabin we list states whether its pool details were owner-verified or documented from cited sources.
